Farm Tours
Hastings Farm offers farm tours to school groups, preschools, daycares, and youth groups. We are a dairy farm with over 300 cows and a small herd of beef cows. Our farm sits on 270 acres of land in Suffield, Connecticut. We have a number of hands-on activities to make learning fun including:
- Butter making
- Ice cream making
- Feeding the cows or calves
- Craft projects
- Pumpkin painting (fall)
- Cows make more than milk (an interesting look at other things cows make)
- Good clean fun (soap making)
- Nature walk
- Hay Rides (call for availability, weather permitting)
We will also accommodate scout troops who are trying to earn a specific badge. Basic farm tours lasting about one hour, with feeding the cows and butter making cost $5 per child. Adult chaperones are free. Tours can be longer and have more activities. E-mail for pricing information. Each child will bring home a packet of age-appropriate information on farming to share with their family. Feel free to pack a lunch or snack. We have a large enough driveway for school buses to park and turn around in. We also have a bathroom.
Barns are handicapped accessible. Special arrangements can be made for children with special needs or learning disability's. We want every child’s trip to the farm to be a happy and memorable experience.
In addition to our cows and calfs we also have a large number of antique tractors and modern tractors to learn about, as well as their implements. Some of them have been used continually on the farm since they were bought in 1960.
Farm tours may be scheduled in Saturday or Sunday to accommodate church youth groups. Farm tours can also become indoor activates to accommodate bad weather. Please contact Megan at Hastings Farm by email or by phone to schedule your farm tour.
